Do you know about the lifecycle of your lifecycle?!??!

After attending an in person panel interview with KITX, internationally renowned sustainable fashion designer, last weekend I was prompted to ask myself a few questions. Have you ever considered the lifecycle of what you wear? The answer is most likely 'no,' but why is this? Well, the world we live in today is all about following trends, quickly moving to fit in with the newest, coolest way of dressing, whilst disregarding all thought about how the garment came about. Big companies are skilled at selling products, enforcing trends, and influencing the customer.
But what if I told you that this is all about to change? In 2028, France, along with many European countries, is introducing the DPP (The Digital Product Portfolio), which will allow customers to scan a QR code and see the exact lifecycle of the product they are about to purchase.
Why is this groundbreaking news? Because it will give transparency to the quite truly horrific methods in which many clothes are manufactured. If you saw that a top was sewn by an 11-year-old girl, living on next to nothing, working until her fingers bleed, but of course, the top was a ‘bargain’ price, would you still purchase it?
It is time to become conscious. It is time to make the ethical choice. It is time to become educated. What you wear matters.
